Questions about building with GamaBuilt.
From the kinds of projects we take on to design-build, timelines, locations, and when to get in touch.
What does GamaBuilt build?+
GamaBuilt builds high-end residential renovations and ground-up custom homes throughout San Francisco and Marin. The firm has extensive experience with the Bay Area's Victorian, Edwardian, and mid-century homes, as well as contemporary construction on hillside and other technically complex sites.
What is design-build?+
Design-build brings design and construction together under one team. GamaBuilt coordinates the process from early planning through completion, giving the homeowner one clear point of contact throughout the project.
Does GamaBuilt work with outside architects?+
Yes. GamaBuilt regularly works with outside architects, including MAK Studio, Philip Mathews, and Smith & Architects, coordinating closely with the design team throughout construction.
What is Owner's Representation?+
Owner's Representation is for clients who already have — or are assembling — their own architect, builder, and consultant team and want an experienced construction professional representing their interests. GamaBuilt can help review proposals, budgets, schedules, and design decisions; participate in project meetings; identify potential issues; and provide informed oversight throughout design and construction.
Where does GamaBuilt work?+
San Francisco and Marin County, with concentrated work in Mill Valley, Glen Park, Buena Vista, and Pacific Heights.
Is GamaBuilt licensed and insured?+
Yes. GamaBuilt holds California Contractors State License Board license #1029737, Class B General Building, and carries full liability and workers' compensation insurance. The license can be verified at cslb.ca.gov.
What size projects does GamaBuilt take on?+
GamaBuilt works on a range of residential projects, from focused renovations and highly detailed interior work to whole-house transformations and ground-up custom homes. Because every home, site, and design is different, project scope and cost are considered individually. The best way to determine whether a project is a good fit is to tell us what you are considering and where you are in the process.
How long does a typical project take?+
Timelines depend on the project. Ground-up homes and extensive renovations can take a year or more once design, permitting, and construction are considered, while more focused renovations may move considerably faster. Site conditions, permitting, structural work, material lead times, and the complexity of the design can all affect the schedule. GamaBuilt develops a project-specific timeline once the scope is better understood.
Does GamaBuilt take on hillside or technically complex projects?+
Yes. GamaBuilt has experience with hillside construction, deep excavation, shoring, drainage, seismic work, complex foundations, and other challenging site conditions common to Bay Area residential construction. Bringing the builder into the process early allows these conditions to be considered while the design, engineering, budget, and schedule are still taking shape.
When should I bring GamaBuilt into a project?+
Ideally, early. For new construction, major renovations, and architect-led projects, involving GamaBuilt during the design process can help identify construction, cost, and scheduling issues before the drawings are complete. That said, projects come to us at many different stages. If you already have drawings, an architect, or even a builder in place, we can help determine the most useful role for GamaBuilt.
How do I get started?+
Tell us a little about the property, what you are considering, and where you are in the process. You can reach GamaBuilt through the contact form, by email at info@gamabuilt.com, or by phone at (415) 860-7174.
Bring us in early.
GamaBuilt works with a small number of clients each year. The earlier we're involved — ideally before drawings are finished — the better the outcome.
